As Congress continues its work on Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) appropriations, it’s critical that all Members understand the importance of Head Start and prioritize funding for this life-altering program.
In his recent testimony before the House Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. affirmed his commitment to preserving legacy programs like Head Start. This decades-long investment in children and families has transformed lives and communities across the country – and it must be sustained with the resources programs need to serve the next generation. And President Trump’s Budget Request for FY26 includes funding for Head Start, but at the same level as FY24 and FY25.
Congress must hear a loud, clear, unified message: Head Start needs support in FY26. This vital investment will serve as a launchpad for future leaders and strong communities, supporting the nearly 700,000 children currently enrolled in Head Start and the tens of thousands more who still lack access.
PLEASE take two minutes to email your Members of Congress and urge them to support Head Start in Fiscal Year 2026.
