- Trainer Bio: Michelle Brown-Grant has been a teacher, supervisor, early childhood center director, school principal, assistant professor of education, and consultant in academically and culturally diverse settings in the tri-state area. A graduate of Cornell University (B.S.) and Teachers College Columbia University (M.A., M.Ed), Michelle’s career has focused on authentic, culturally responsive practices, curriculum development, charter school support, leadership, and teacher education. Michelle has collaborated with school districts around the country to improve teacher capacity, classroom interactions, and school climates. She supports district administrators and principals through walkthroughs assessments, professional development, and coaching to create high-quality early childhood environments. She has reviewed national conference proposals to enhance professional development in early childhood, literacy, and professional development. As a consultant for Bank Street College Education Center, she provides professional development in early childhood topics such as: play-based, developmentally appropriate trauma-informed instructional approaches, social-emotional development, literacy with creative curriculum, process art, block building, math and science inquiry, and transitions. Michelle has facilitated family and parent leader workshops on healthy early child brain development through play. Topics have included literacy and critical thinking skills, math, curiosity, persistence and resilience, imagination, and language.
