  • Trainer Bio: Nykisha Barefield is the Assistant Director of Education and Support Services for the Early Childhood Services Division. She has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Type 75 from Concordia University and a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Early Childhood Education from Chicago State University. Nykisha has been with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet for 19 years, working in the Head Start program as a Teacher and Site Director. Nykisha is a Head Start Johnson and Johnson Fellow, she has participated and conducted trainings/workshops at various levels within Head Start. She has also completed Community Leadership School for the Joliet area and is certified as a Pyramid Model trainer. She became a MITM trainer during the first cohort in 2018. Nykisha recently completed the Trauma Informed Educational Practices for Children and Adolescents Certification from North Central College. Nykisha was nominated and became the IAEYC member spotlight in February 2021. She considers herself a lifelong learning and takes pride in empowering other staff to reach their full potential. Nykisha has one adult son and enjoys spending time with family and close friends.
