Head Start Reacts to Passage of Short-Term Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Head Start Association commended Congress for passing a two-week Continuing Resolution to avoid a shutdown of the federal government: “The Head Start community is pleased that Congress passed a short-term fix that will avoid a shutdown of the government,” NHSA Executive Director Yasmina Vinci said. “We strongly urge Congress to act quickly on a more permanent solution that continues the national commitment to Head Start children and families.  Despite our differences, most Americans agree that high quality early childhood education, as epitomized by Head Start, is a worthwhile investment that keeps our communities and families strong and gives children, our greatest asset, a fighting chance at success.”

“Further, we call on Congress and the President to reach an agreement on how to prevent the looming deportation of hundreds of thousands of people who have built lives in this country thanks to DACA including some who directly participate in Head Start. A common ground permanent solution that gives these families some certainty about their futures is long overdue.”
