Head Start Ready to Work with President-Elect Biden to Put Children and Families First
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a statement from National Head Start Association Executive Director Yasmina Vinci, the Head Start community announced its commitment to working collaboratively with President-elect Joe Biden to strengthen support for America’s most at-risk children and families.
“This year’s election was the culmination of a long, divisive campaign season—one that split families, communities, and our country as a whole,” said Vinci. “As we look to the future, we must turn our attention to the many ties that bind us together, including our nation’s commitment to Head Start.
“For the last six decades years, Head Start has thrived under administrations and Congresses led by both parties, thanks to the broad bipartisan support for our proven model of partnering with children and families. Creating opportunity for all, regardless of their circumstances at birth, is a fundamental American value—and Head Start has improved health, education, social-emotional, and nutrition outcomes for more than 37 million children and families since its inception. As we move into the next chapter of our nation’s journey, Head Start stands ready to work with President-elect Biden to open new windows of opportunity for the next generation of Americans. We encourage our nation’s leaders, both current and incoming, to work together immediately to pass a COVID-19 relief package that includes at least $1.7 billion for Head Start and Early Head Start programs trying to address rising costs.”
