Project (Stand for) Head Start – A Summer Program of Action
In 1965, we launched a summer program. Sixty years later, it’s time we spark a summer of support.
Project Head Start began as an eight-week summer initiative to give children a strong, healthy foundation before entering school. In those days, staff went door to door, building community support, recruiting new families, and helping launch a legacy — and this summer, we’re following in their footsteps to ensure a bright future for the next generation.
8 Weeks of Action for Head Start is a national campaign to rally support, amplify our voices, and build lasting momentum to protect and strengthen Head Start for generations to come.
The Plan:
Each week between June 15 to August 9, 2025, we will share with you one simple action for you—as an individual or program—to take. We will provide you with social media tools, event ideas, and downloadable materials to support the actions.
The full plan is coming, but actions will include things like:
✅ Storytelling – Share your Head Start journey.
✅ Community Canvassing – Show up at parades, farmers markets, and summer events.
✅ Advocacy – Connect with local and national leaders.
✅ Partnership Building – Engage with small businesses, faith groups, healthcare providers, and more.
✅ Local Visibility – Rock your Head Start gear and bring the message to your neighborhood.
